Our HERitage has now also printed several portraits of powerful women and other special features on postcards! These five cards feature various images, including one of Louisa Helena Gerardina Denswil, an indigenous midwife who grew up on the Osembo plantation in Suriname. In 1970, she received recognition from Queen Juliana for her contribution/fight for better maternity care for women of color/Black women in Suriname.
Women throughout history have demonstrated resilience throughout their lives and contributed to a rich, diverse Caribbean legacy. These postcards, and the entire project, highlight the women's stories. Proceeds will be used to further the project.
The postcards can be pre-ordered and picked up at the Our HERitage symposium on September 29th. More information about the symposium can be found here.
