Iftar Our HERitage x CECD x Muslim Archief

Our HERitage, CECD, and Muslim Archive are jointly organizing an Iftar on March 7th. The evening will begin with a pre-event program featuring a panel discussion on Muslim foodways with, among others, Ass. Prof. Joud al-Korani and PhD candidate Fausia S. Abdul, followed by a spoken word performance. Afterwards, we will break the fast together and enjoy a special performance by the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra throughout the evening! A wonderful opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims to come together!

*Panel Muslim Food Ways

Joud Alkorani, assistant professor at Radboud University, researches the aftermath of the Arab Spring, focusing on Islam, migration, subjectivity, neoliberalism, gender, and food. She received her PhD in Toronto and was a postdoctoral fellow in Beirut.

Willem Flinterman is a historian specializing in the cultural history of the MENA region. He is also actively involved in making the food system more sustainable through his initiative worms@work, a small, circular mealworm farm.

Fausia S. Abdul is a civil servant, founder of Our HERitage, and a PhD candidate with a research focus on security, gender, migration, and Islam. She has over ten years of experience in journalism and humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations. Her Caribbean cookbook and culture book is forthcoming.

Entertainment

** The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra performs various musical genres from Granada to Baghdad, spanning diverse periods and styles. From the rich Arabo-Andalusian repertoire to the mystical Eastern music and folk music of the Maghreb.
