Last Monday 13 January, the exclusive premiere of "False Paradise: The Hindu Story of the Hindostanes" was shown at the AFAS Theatre in Leusden. Fariel Soeleiman and Fausia S. Abdul from Our Heritage were also present on this beautiful evening.

On January 19, 2025, the documentary will also be shown on NPO2 and NPO Start. This moving documentary takes you on a voyage of discovery into the history of the Hindostan community after the abolition of slavery.

The documentary follows cousins Pavan Marhe and Feroz Amirkhan in their quest to find their Hindostani roots. Between 1873 and 1920, contract workers were shipped from India to the plantations in the Caribbean to take over the work of the former slaves. These workers were confronted with harsh working conditions and their stories have often been forgotten in historiography. Our Heritage's various series of portraits also feature the stories of these contract workers.

Pavan and Feroz's journey takes them to Suriname, Guyana, and Trinidad, where they visit important locations such as plantations, old sugar factories and monuments. By exploring these places, they are bringing not only their personal history to life, but also the collective narrative of the Hindostan community.

So, watch, January 19, 2025 "Fake Paradise" on NPO2 and NPO Start!
