Last weekend the CBG celebrated | Centre for family history are 80 years old. It was a party full of highlights: a private partner day in the form of a scientific symposium, the next day the Famillement, the announcement of the Family Historian 2025, the GenTalkShow and the publication of a special GEN edition. Our Heritage was present at the special partner day prior to the Famillement.
In an intimate and warm setting researchers, collaborators and other stakeholders came together. There were many well-known faces. People who have been following the work of Our Heritage for a long time or have supported it in many ways along the way were there. It was a day of deepening and appreciation for each other's efforts, but also to exchange different points of view.
The next day, there was something to experience everywhere in the CBG building: from live interviews to information stands, from personal meetings with researchers to attending the election of the Family Historian 2025. We also spoke to visitors about the role of forgotten voices in family histories, exactly what Our Heritage is committed to. The talks were not only about pedigrees or archives, but about the meaning of family history in the present. Who is remembered? Who is still missing from the stories? And how do we make sure that voices that have been ignored for too long are given a place?
A special moment during the weekend was the presentation of the anniversary edition of Gen., the magazine for family history. This festive edition is accessible to everyone and includes contributions by Beatrice de Graaf, Maartje Duin, Bas von Benda-Beckmann, Nicole Terborg, and Maddy Stolk. There is also a look back at the history of the CBG, a column by Stephanie Biesheuvel and an inspiring portrait of founder Eltjo Beresteyn.

We look back on a meaningful weekend in which family history came to life. Thanks to the CBG and all involved who continue to contribute to majority voting in the historical field.
